Closing the gap between the actual and the desired level of investments to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) is clearly beyond the reach of governments and public lenders. This problem can be addressed only with the engagement of the private sector in the shift towards sustainable models of production, respectful of the environments and human rights. Participants at this year’s OECD Global Forum on Development took stock of existing initiatives to catalyse the power of the private sector in supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals, explored new avenues of partnerships to mobilise the necessary resources.
Some of the most important personalities from the diplomacy, financial and global businesses world, attended the event, as:
Angel Gurría, OECD Secretary-General
Amina J. Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General
Alain Papiasse, Deputy General Director of BNP Paribas
Amy Jadesimi, managing director of LADOL International
As Italian Climate Network delegate I attended the Global Forum to have an insight on the current business approaches to the shift towards a greener economy and more sustainable means of production.
In 2015 Italian Climate Network started the development of a new educational initiative, the “School Project”. Secondary schools in Italy don’t always integrate climate change in their curricula. Through a series of multidisciplinary lessons, the project aims at providing accurate knowledge about this phenomenon to young people, raising awareness and empowering them. After a series of trial lessons, the authors gathered in Milan on the 8th July 2016, to share the results of their work and train the team of speakers for the project's launch, scheduled for September 2016.
Authors and presentations:
Federico Brocchieri – CLIMATE CHANGE: CAUSES, CONSEQUENCES AND SOLUTIONS Federico Brocchieri – CLIMATE NEGOTIATIONS Chiara Soletti – CLIMATE AND HUMAN RIGHTS Benedetta Rossi – CLIMATE AND HEALTH Federico Capezzuoli – CLIMATE AND WASTE MANAGEMENT Marco Milano – CLIMATE SCIENCE
As the author of the “Climate and Human Rights” lesson of the Italian Climate Network’s School Project, I presented the results of my work and contributed to the formation of the new team of lecturers.

The “Eat & Meet” events bring together at the same table young people and senior experts and allow them to exchange opinions, ideas and experiences. Each senior leader shares her or his table with six to eight aspiring leaders interested in her/his field of expertise, share her/his life experience as well as in-depth background about their job. In turn, the dinner is a chance for the senior decision makers to connect with young leaders, understand their concerns, and fresh exchange ideas.
